Mandrake Linux Installed!

Check it out. I've got Mandrake Linux 9.2 installed in Virtual PC. Whoo Hoo! Coming from Microsoft-land it almost feels like blasphemy but - there - I've done it! And it only cost £6.98 to buy the magazine with a 4Gb DVD. I've decided it's time I take a closer look at Linux and Open Source software. There's certainly a lot of interesting Open Source projects out there.

I read up on all the different distributions of Linux and decided Mandrake was good enough to start with. It's aimed at newbies and that's fine for me. I haven't used Unix since I was at university 17 years ago. I also happened to find it in WH Smith (local bookshop)! I'll look out for a good distro of Debian to install next. The installation of Mandrake Linux was dead simple. Impressive.

I tried installing BitTorrent to see whether I could download a Linux distro but it would take about a day for 2Gb worth. Nope. Gave that up. Got a glimpse of all the other stuff you can download with BitTorrent. Wow.

There's a whole new world of software out there.
