After seeing so many raves about Far Cry, I went and got myself a copy from GamePlay. Just finished level four last night. I've mentioned before that I'm not a real fan of first person shooters but I gotta admit this is a superb game.
The graphics are stunning. You're on a tropical island and the vegetation is lush and gently sways. The play of light is fantastic. I always consider water to be the graphics acid test and Far Cry does it very well. There's lots of detail with birds, fish and dragonflies. Lots and lots of detail. It fun just to stop and enjoy the scenery! Very immersive.
I'm now further annoyed that I can't get my ATI Radeon 9700 to run on my new motherboard so this is all working through my old GF4 4600. The graphics are great but there are still lots more graphic features I'm not experiencing. Arrgghh.
Playability is excellent. The AI of the opponents is very good although I'm only playing medium. Haven't really explored the physics engine but I've heard it's extensive. Go read some reviews. Basically, if you're at all interested in first person shooters, this game is a no brainer. Get it. Don't forget to install the 1.1 patch too.
Ubisoft seems to be keen on supporting mods for the game. A mod editor is included and at first glance seems pretty sophisticated. Something to watch.
