I've been ponder digital SLR's for the last couple of months. I picked up the Nikon D70 in Costco and was repulsed by how plastic the thing felt compared to my 20 year old SLR. The Canon 20D sounded excellent and then the Canon 350D came out and looked like it had all the features for much less. Perfect.
A couple of day ago I went to a camera shop and tried it out. I found the Canon 350D too small for my hands and the kit lens was worse than the D70. Horrible! The display was small and only on the back of the camera. I also tried the Canon 20D and found the controls and display were much better although the camera was quite big and heavy. Ironically, the Nikon D70 didn't seem that bad after all when compared against the others. I'm now inclined to wait and try out the new Nikon D50 coming this June to see how it compares.
Overall, I really don't like how these DSLR's don't feel nearly as solid and as well built as old SLRs - at least not in my price bracket.
