Netgear WG102 802.11g Access Point

I recently purchased a refurbished Netgear WG102 802.11g Access Point off of ebay. It was triggered by my neighbour's ISP connection failing when they forced an upgrade on him (avoid Wanadoo/Orange). I helped him out by sharing access to my Internet connection but the signal was very weak. He had to dangle his WiFi dongle out the window to get it to work :-)

I've had range troubles with my 802.11b network inside the house so it was time to upgrade. At £31, it was cheap.

You may have noticed that I tend to stick with Netgear. Their products generally work well and I like equipment in sturdy metal boxes. The WG102 is a great access point and has more features than I need. I like the fact it supports bridging which may come in handy some point in the future. The range is better now. The access point can pick up a few neighbours!

Since I can now turn off the 802.11b access point built into my modem/firewall/router/switch, I've mounted this box and my Gigabit switch on the wall under my desk. Much cleaner. Unfortunately, neither switch supports Power Over Ethernet (POe) which would be a tidier solution for powering the WG102.
